“Every war is a war against children.”
When war breaks out, children are the weakest link in it. Hostilities affect them; they fall into countless dangers and are deprived of the most beautiful childhood years. Hence, protecting children is a critical task, as they are, above all, the present and the future.
Over one in ten children worldwide are affected by armed conflict today, each searching for ways to cope with the chaos of war. Despite the protection the law guarantees them, dangers still surround them from every side. They are recruited and exploited by armed forces and armed groups, separated from their families, forced from their homes, denied education, killed, maimed, or sexually assaulted.

- Violence against women remains a barrier to achieving equality, development, and peace, as well as fulfilling the human rights of women and girls. The promise of the Sustainable Development Goals – leaving no one behind – cannot be fulfilled without ending violence against women and girls.
Defenders have been subjected during these years to extremism, violence, violations, kidnapping, enforced disappearance, assassination, and extrajudicial killing.
Women human rights defenders are critical actors in the struggle to ensure the enjoyment of human rights by all, which leads to a more inclusive and equal society.
