The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all UN Member States in 2015, provides a common plan for achieving peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and in the future. At their core lie the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which represent an urgent call to action by all countries – developed and developing – in a global partnership. They recognize that eliminating poverty and other forms of deprivation must go hand in hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and stimulate economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.
The SDGs build on decades of work by countries and the United Nations, including the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals?
The Sustainable Development Goals are a plan to achieve a better, more sustainable future for all. These goals address the global challenges we face, including challenges related to poverty, inequality, climate and environmental degradation, prosperity, peace, and justice. The goals are interconnected, and to ensure that no one is left behind, it is important to achieve each goal by 2030.
Goal 1 – End poverty in all its forms everywhere
Economic growth must be inclusive, creating sustainable jobs and promoting equality.
