The INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS SHIELD emphasizes that human trafficking and the exploitation of migrants constitute serious violations of human rights and human dignity. Saving lives and protecting people must remain a priority above political considerations or narrow interests.
The risks faced by migrants during irregular migration journeys by sea continue to increase. Thousands of people face the dangers of drowning, exploitation by organized criminal networks, extortion, human trafficking, and other forms of abuse, turning their hopes for a better future into painful humanitarian tragedies. Human beings must never be used as a means of political pressure, and migration must not be treated as a bargaining tool or exploited for gains at the expense of human dignity.
The INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS SHIELD calls on young people not to fall victim to irregular migration networks or the methods used by smugglers. Instead, it encourages them to contribute to the development of their communities through education, employment, innovation, and constructive participation, while making use of safe and legal migration pathways whenever they are available.
The organization also calls upon governments to fulfill their responsibilities by creating employment opportunities, promoting sustainable development, protecting young people, combating corruption and poverty, and addressing the root causes of forced migration. At the same time, international cooperation must be strengthened to combat human trafficking and migrant smuggling networks, protect victims, and provide them with the necessary humanitarian and social support.
Protecting human beings is a shared responsibility. Building a safer and more just future requires respect for international law, the protection of human dignity, and the strengthening of solidarity among peoples.
