The global arms trade has evolved into a parallel economy that feeds on human suffering. At the top of this industry stand major corporations, including Lockheed Martin, RTX Corporation (Raytheon), Northrop Grumman, BAE Systems, Airbus, Thales, Elbit Systems, and Rostec. These companies generate annual revenues amounting to hundreds of billions of dollars. Beyond manufacturing and selling weapons, they continue to benefit from the persistence of armed conflicts and the expansion of global arms races.
This immense accumulation of wealth comes directly at the expense of societies that are forced to allocate scarce resources to weapons instead of education, healthcare, and sustainable development. It is also built upon the suffering of civilians who continue to lose their lives in conflicts fueled by these weapons.
The International Shield Organization reaffirms its commitment to supporting all human rights, legal, and media initiatives aimed at strengthening accountability and transparency in the global arms trade, exposing its humanitarian consequences, and advocating for stronger international oversight of the production, export, and transfer of weapons. Such efforts are essential to reducing armed conflicts, protecting civilians, and promoting respect for international humanitarian law and international human rights law.
