The International Congress for Protecting the Rights and Freedom of Citizens (SHIELD) renews its ongoing call for the release of all political prisoners worldwide and for the establishment of open platforms for dialogue and cooperation to build societies founded on justice, human dignity, and respect for fundamental freedoms.
Amid the continued global decline in freedom over recent years, public demands for basic rights and accountable governance have become more urgent than ever. Yet, many authoritarian regimes perceive these calls as a direct threat to their grip on power, intensifying their repression against human rights defenders, advocates of freedom of expression, and pro-democracy activists.
In defense of universal human values, SHIELD reaffirms its commitment to amplifying marginalized voices and combating oppression and tyranny through dialogue, cooperation, respect for the rule of law, and the rejection of impunity.
Around the world, human rights defenders, journalists, writers, clergy, and civil society activists continue to face grave risks for their work. Many are detained in inhumane conditions, deprived of their right to a fair trial, and denied contact with their lawyers or families. Others suffer from medical neglect, ill-treatment, and abuse, with some losing their lives slowly behind bars.
Injustice, tyranny, and repression not only violate human dignity but also foster poverty, instability, and social unrest, undermining the foundations of development, peace, and coexistence.
At a time when numerous countries are witnessing an alarming rise in human rights violations and tightening restrictions on freedom of opinion and expression, the International Congress for Protecting the Rights and Freedom of Citizens (SHIELD) continues its mission to defend victims of oppression through international human rights mechanisms.
The organization has submitted numerous individual complaints, acted as a bridge to convey the voices of the oppressed, and raised global awareness through its media and advocacy platforms.
SHIELD emphasizes that freedom and justice are inalienable rights for every human being and calls for the immediate release of all prisoners of conscience, thought, belief, and expression, as well as those imprisoned for their peaceful opinions or human rights and journalistic activities.
At the same time, the organization underscores that those convicted of terrorist crimes cannot be regarded as political prisoners if they have been tried and sentenced under national laws through fair and transparent judicial procedures.
The plight of political prisoners is not a domestic matter but a universal moral issue that demands a unified humanitarian response from all nations, international bodies, and civil society — in defense of freedom, dignity, and justice against oppression and authoritarianism.
